This is a real quick edit of the clips from my first outing with the new adventure vehicle. It's the 2017 Subaru Crosstrek Premium in Desert Khaki...so it matches everything I wear, which is a bonus. I think 75 of the first 100 miles on the car were clocked on trails and off road.
The plan is to put this little beast to good use through Spring, into Summer then Fall and Winter...It's ideal for road trips, camping or just going on a shoot for a day. Every effort will be made to find adventures in new and exciting places, visit lots of friends, point cameras at lots of things and do other fun...

Not all missions go as planned. During a flight downtown I was fighting the wind but still getting some good shots...then...tragedy...
I lost signal and the Solo went into Return to Home mode...unfortunately there was an enormous bell tower about two feet out of place. BOOM! The Solo bounced off the tower and plummeted in pieces to the roof of the building. Fortunately the security guard escorted me to the roof (after some coaxing) to recover the remains.
I'm hopeful that it can be put back together, but it will take some doing. The camera went flying (not in a good way) but survived, the gi...

I did a few quick flights today down the street from our facility. I've always loved this style of shot in films so I thought I'd try it out. There remains some distortion in the image even in Linear FOV mode in the GoPro Hero Black firmware v5.00, but I'm going to try a few different configurations and see where the sweet spot is.

A walk down Tejon Street in 4K / Testing the Sony A6300 and HG3D gimbal

I shot this the first or second day I got the gimbal. The camera is the Sony A6300 with the Hasselblad/Sony 16mm F2.8. I did basically zero editing on this. It's just a test. The gimbal keeps things pretty stable, but there's still a lot of z-axis travel that I'll be able to work around with a little more practice. Also, I think I forgot to turn off the stabilization in camera, so the gimbal and the sensor were probably fighting each other, which would account for some of the jiggle.

Here is a quick edit of a few flyover clips filmed at a local skate park. I still need to get ND filters for the GoPro so I don't get issues from letting the shutter speed go nuts and ramp my exposure whenever it wants. I'm fairly certain that the footage from the 3DR Solo and Hero 4 Black will be phenomenal once everything is dialed in.

My new suspension (adjustable coilovers) is installed and tested. I lowered the ride height by about 1.5 inches in the process. It drives way way better, and even though I had basically no idea what I was doing and had to work through two thunderstorms it turned out really well.
Fortunately a friend of mine who happens to be a Miata expert stopped by after I finished up today and did a test drive and looked at what I'd done and it passed the inspection.
Big thanks to Matthew Crawford for taking the time out to make sure I didn't put anything on upside down...and also for letting me take a s...
We got a new 2016 Subaru Lgacy today. Maria is giddy...it's super nice and has all of the gadgets. It's basically the starship Enterprise compared to the Miata.
